"Broomball, is that the thing where they slide that big rock and rub the ice with the brooms as it slides along?"

That's the most commonly asked question!  It's actually more like a cross between ice hockey and field hockey only the players don't skate, they run on the ice!  Players wear special broomball shoes that have a foam sole that allows excellent grip on the ice.  The sticks (broom) used are about 1.2m in length with a rubber wedge shaped head.  Each team has 6 players on the ice, 1 player in the goals, 2 players in defence and 3 players in the forwards.

Broomball is different to other ball and stick sports as the ice surface adds an extra dimension to the game.  It's great fun and an excellent work out for players of all ages from 15Yrs and over.

Come and give Broomball a go, we guarantee you'll love the challenge!

Broomball Competitions in the ACT:

  • Mixed (Non-contact)

The mixed league is the main competition the ACT Broomball Association and is seen as a more social competiton.  It's a great place to start to get your ice feet and learn how the game is played in a non contact environment.  A great opportunity for couples to play a sport together and get a good workout.  The after-game chat and drinks at local clubs is a great way to relax afterwards.

 Played:

Summer: October to March between 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Winter: April to September between 7:30am to 10:00am

  • Mens (Contact)

A recent addition to the local competition in the ACT allowing for contact between opponents.  A great opportunity to learn the skills required to play both the ball and the man!  Contact broomball is fast but not nescesarily furious!   Men's contact is played at both the National and International level.

Played:

Currently Thursday nights 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

  • Womens (Contact)

ACT Broomball is trying to start a new Women's competition that will allow for contact to be played.  Please indicate your interest in playing in a team by contacting ACT Broomball

Played:

Yet to be confirmed once enough interest from players has been received.
